Chennai: The killing of a marriage-hall owner in Ambasamudram has shocked the state, and parties are attacking the law-and-order situation.
Opposition parties say a run of murders and violent incidents has raised questions about public safety.
DMK deputy general secretary and MP Kanimozhi has sharply criticised the government over the Ambasamudram case. She said the government must act to protect law and order.
She said that if the chief minister cannot run the police effectively, that charge should be given to someone who can. Protecting people’s lives is a core duty of the government, she said, and the police response to repeated crimes must be intensified.
Law and order in Tamil Nadu is once again at the centre of the political argument. What the government does next is being watched.
